Andrew Hill enregistre pour le label Blue Note dans les années 60, période à partir de laquelle il se forme une solide réputation de pianiste. Andrew Hill a accompagné de nombreux jazzmen : Eric Dolphy, Joe Henderson, Richard Davis, Tony Williams et Kenny Dorham. Les années 90 marquent une pause dans sa carrière avant que son album Dusk (2001) rencontre un beau succès et remporte plusieurs prix du public ou de la critique.
